Dr. George L. Ehni, nationally recognized leader in neurosurgery, began the Neurosurgery Residency Program at Baylor College of Medicine in 1958. Since then, the program has grown into one of the most notably respected neurosurgery training programs in the country. Following completion of training, many physicians have found positions within an academic setting, while many have entered into private practice. Additionally, a few of the alumni have furthered their career at Baylor College of Medicine and have been hired as full-time faculty within the department. The Ehni Fund supports the Department's Residency Program and covers written board examination fees each year for approximately ten residents. The fund also covers surgical loupes, lead aprons, textbooks, and ravel expenses for residents whose abstracts are accepted for presentation.
