Center for Professionalism Scholarship

• Applications for these grants are accepted on a rolling basis, so you can apply at any time throughout the year
• Grants will be evaluated by the mini grant review committee, and will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis until the funds have been fully allocated
• Only one grant proposal per person per year will be funded

The mini-grant review committee will evaluate applications based on the following criteria:

• Clarity of Proposal: Is the proposal clear and understandable?
• Alignment with Institutional Priorities: Does the request clearly support an identified priority for the institution and the Center for Professionalism?
• Work Plan: Is the plan of work clearly outlined and feasible?
• Defined Roles: Are the roles and responsibilities of team members and the organization clearly specified?
• Team-member Qualifications: Are team-members appropriately qualified to complete the described work?
• Feasibility of Timeline: Can the proposed work be completed within a year from the start date?
• Budget: Are the requested costs reasonable and justified (maximum award amount is $1,000)?

• Complete the project one year after the grant is awarded.
• Present a poster on their work at the Baylor Annual Showcase of Educational Scholarship which usually occurs in September. Acknowledge the support of the Center during the presentation.  
• Send a copy of the poster or presentation to ProfessionalismMatters@bcm.edu.
• Send receipts as early as possible but no later than 30 days after the project completion to ProfessionalismMatters@bcm.edu.

The mini grant review committee is committed to funding as many proposals as possible. To facilitate the review and award process, we encourage you to submit a comprehensive and well-thought-out proposal. 

Use this opportunity to express your enthusiasm for your project, and feel free to include any supporting documentation that can help convey your vision. We will give special consideration to projects that aim to achieve one or both of the following objectives:

• Link humanistic care and education practices to measurable outcomes in patient experience, quality of care, cost-effectiveness, as well topics related to burnout and wellness for providers and trainees.
• Review and synthesize studies focused on implementation, particularly those that translate research findings into practice.

What should I do if I don’t know how to answer a question on the application?

Don't leave items blank. If you are unsure of the answer, answer it to the best of your ability or reach out to ProfessionalisllmMatters@bcm.edu to request clarification.

What kind of details do I need to include in my budget?

Provide us with a budget breakdown and tell us how you came up with the figures for your budget. Example:

• Conference Presentation - $200 (conference registration)
• Consultant Fees - $1,500 (three days at $500 per day)

Please round up to the nearest whole dollar. 

What if my budget exceeds the grant maximum of $1,000?

We understand that the project budget sometimes exceeds our grant limits (max $1,000). If your total budget exceeds $1,000, please tell us: What, out of the overall budget, the $1,000 will be used for and how you plan to fund the remaining balance of the costs.

What costs are allowable? 

Funds from Professionalism Mini-Grants may not be used to pay for personal expenses or travel. While funds can be used for food / refreshments, mini-grant funds may not be used for alcoholic beverages.

If participation in the project will be incentivized, please note that, according to BCM policy, gift cards may incur tax implications for the recipient. We recommend considering a tangible item, such as cookies or candy, as a more suitable incentive that would not be subject to taxation. 

I’ve finished my application. What should I do next?
