Congratulations! You just learned a lot about how to help your child manage multiple plans of action at once. You also learned about how to best deal with challenges such as oppositional behavior. Below are some summary points to take away:

  1. Before your child starts on a new plan, reflect with them on their progress and evaluate if they are ready to start working on additional plans.
  2. Consider the reasons why a new plan might be helpful or unhelpful before deciding to start one.
  3. Use the scheduling and organization tips to help your child work on their plans without feeling overwhelmed.
  4. Stay flexible and adjust the weekly schedule as needed.
  5. If your child has oppositional behaviors, try to identify the trigger, validate their emotions, provide predictability and choices, and break things down into smaller steps.

Over the next week…

  1. Help your child keep practicing the steps in their current plan of action.
  2. Evaluate whether you and your child are ready to make a new plan of action.
  3. If so, make a new plan and work on activities from both plans throughout the week. Make sure to use the tips in this module.
