The Basic Science Core provides members with access to equipment, advice on basic science experimental design and execution, and non-human primate (NHP) resources to drive HIV research and address fundamental questions relevant to the HIV epidemic in Texas and beyond.

The involvement of Texas Biomedical Research Institute and the Southwest National Primate Research Center (SNPRC) in this core enables TX D-CFAR members to conduct feasibility studies in NHPs at greatly reduced costs.

Our core facilitates HIV research by providing training and the use of state-of-the-art virology and immunology assays, reagents, and technical services. The assays and services include ELISA, ELISPOT, multiplex assays, flow cytometry, RT-qPCR, quantitative viral outgrowth assays, and single-cell RNA seq. viral stocks, SIV/SHIV macaque models and necropsy samples, non-human primate (NHP) PET/CT scans, and support for human organoid models of HIV-1 infection.

  • Training for conducting cutting-edge basic science HIV research using robust experimental designs
