The Lung Transplant Program at Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center is a national leader in advanced lung disease and offers a variety of options for patients in need of a lung transplant. Our team is led by Medical Director Dr. Puneet Garcha and Surgical Director, Dr. Gabriel Loor

Our program is designated as a transplant center of excellence by Optum/United Healthcare, which is among the largest insurance networks in the country. We are pioneers of various innovations including the use of portable ex vivo lung perfusion for transportation and evaluation of donor organs. Our multidisciplinary team provides comprehensive care before, during, and after transplant.

Referral for Lung Transplantation

Content

For most patients, a pulmonologist or primary care provider will advise when you should be referred to a transplant center for evaluation. The most common diseases for lung transplant referral are interstitial lung diseases including pulmonary fibrosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, pulmonary hypertension, cystic fibrosis, bronchiectasis, and sarcoidosis.
