Our Cardiology Section has a legacy of national and international recognition as a leader in research, education and clinical care in areas ranging from the prevention of heart disease to treatment of an array of cardiovascular diseases such as coronary artery disease, valvular disorders, cardiomyopathies and advanced heart failure and cardiac transplant.
Our outstanding faculty practice medicine in world-renowned institutions such as Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center, Texas Heart Institute, Texas Children’s Hospital, Ben Taub Hospital, and Michael E DeBakey VA Medical Center, as well as affiliated institutions throughout the greater Houston area. Our faculty are dedicated to innovative and integrative patient care in all patient care settings, including inpatient and outpatient care at our private and public hospitals. Our hospitals are the premier destination for treating the full spectrum of cardiovascular disease, regardless of complexity. Our faculty have been recognized for their pioneering efforts in the advancement of cardiovascular care, including participation in the first successful implantation of the BiVACOR Total Artificial Heart.
We are committed to train competent and highly skilled cardiologists from diverse backgrounds who practice equitable, compassionate, and patient-centered care. We strive to foster the scientific aspirations of trainees through a mentored research training plan. We have strong research programs in all areas of cardiovascular disease including partnerships with basic and clinical researchers throughout the Texas Medical Center, the United States and the world to develop new approaches for diagnosis, treatment and prevention of cardiovascular disease.
