Fellow Testimonials

Class of 2025

BCM GI is a nationally renowned, strong clinical fellowship program that prepares fellows to be the future leaders of gastroenterology & hepatology. Exposure to diverse patient populations across three different clinical pavilions, high endoscopic volume, and strong clinician-educator faculty supportive of fellows' goals & aspirations were qualities I valued in a training program. One of my academic interests is quality improvement in digestive diseases and training at an institution that prioritizes systemic healthcare process improvement was also important. - Freddie Peng, PGY5

I chose BCM because it is a well-known, elite GI training program that offers a wide breadth of experiences due to the 3 hospital systems. Also, I loved living in Houston during medical school and knew I wanted to come back. The opportunity to be in the city I love and get top notch GI training made my decision an easy one!  - Gabe Sandoval, PGY5

As I completed my medical school and residency training at BCM, I couldn't imagine a better, more supportive place to pursue my terminal specialization in GI.  -Nathan Spezia-Lindner, PGY5

I chose BCM because of the clinical and research strength of the GI department. I'm excited to join a program filled with physicians committed to teaching and mentoring the future leaders of GI. In my free time, I love to explore the farmers markets, museums, and culture events that fill Houston. Summer is an especially great time for outdoor concerts hosted at Miller Outdoor Theater in Hermann Park! - Jake Jacob, PGY5

I chose BCM because of the amazing faculty and co-fellows who go above and beyond to help us excel professionally and personally. It is also a privilege to train at the Texas Medical Center and by rotating at the VA, Ben Taub, and Baylor St. Luke's, we are exposed to a wide variety of patient populations and disease processes. I know that I will leave the program with excellent clinical and procedural skills. - Shivani Kastuar, PGY6

I did my residency and chief year at BCM and stayed for fellowship because of the amazing and supportive faculty, the diverse patient population with a wide variety of pathology, and the many research and quality improvement opportunities available. - David Szafron, PGY6

I chose BCM because of the great diversity of patients, supportive faculty, smart and humble co-fellows/colleagues … also, Houston. What’s there not to love? – Temini Ajayi, PGY6

I have done my entire training at BCM from medical school, residency and now fellowship. I interviewed broadly for residency and fellowship and I truly think the clinical training is bar-none at BCM. The diversity of pathology and training at the three different pavilions prepares you for whatever practice you want in the future. There is an amazing collegiality amongst your co-fellows. The faculty are approachable and treat you as their colleagues. - Anthony Xu, PGY6
