
Division Overview
The Division of Pediatric Tropical Medicine is dedicated largely to the area of Emerging and Neglected Tropical diseases, emerging infectious diseases, and diseases of unmet need. The division includes the Texas Children's Hospital Center for Vaccine Development as well as our various research laboratories. It complements the educational, clinical, and policy-related activities of the National School of Tropical Medicine.
Texas Children's Hospital Center for Vaccine Development
The vaccine center works across disciplines to develop and advance vaccines for neglected and and emerging infections diseases that disproportionately affect the poorest and most vulnerable individuals around the world.
Biosafety Level-3 (BSL-3) Facility
The Feigin Tower Biosafety Level-3 (BSL-3) Facility, supported by Texas Children’s Hospital, is focused on the research of pathogens that require specialized handling. Strict measures of containment, personal protective equipment, and training are required for working with these pathogens.
Tropical Medicine Research Laboratories
The research laboratories apply fundamental and translational research in specific disciplines to effect our mission of producing new vaccines, drugs and diagnostics for human neglected tropical infections poverty, as well as zoonotic infectious diseases.
