Where We Work
While on medicine, our residents enjoy educational opportunities at four different hospitals. Predominantly medicine-pediatrics residents work at Ben Taub, our county hospital, or the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center. Other educational opportunities are available at Baylor St. Luke's Hospital as well as MD Anderson Cancer Center. Baylor has one of the most heterogenous medicine training experiences available with opportunities at county, private and veteran's affairs facilities. We also serve a large immigrant population which only adds to the diversity.

Didactics and Educational Opportunities
Morning report is held Monday through Friday at each of our main clinical sites. Cases are prepared by residents and a case-based discussion of the differential diagnosis and work up is led by the medical chief resident. Breakfast is provided at most clinical sites. Resident attendance is strongly encouraged.
Noon conference is held Monday through Wednesday and Friday. It is a lecture series aimed at covering general medicine topics by specialty. These interactive sessions are typically led by fellows or attending physicians. Resident attendance is strongly encouraged. Lunch is provided at some clinical sites.
Grand rounds is held weekly on Thursdays during the lunch hour at Main Baylor. Presentations are live-streamed to each of the clinical sites. Resident attendance is strongly encouraged.
One Wednesday per month while on medicine elective rotations residents are excused from clinical duties for a day of didactic activities. Morning sessions generally include lectures on topics such as quality improvement, evidence based medicine, high value care and general ambulatory internal medicine topics. In the afternoon, intern physicians participate in simulations and procedure training while upper level residents have that time for administrative duties.
