Houston is the most culturally vibrant metropolitan area in the United States with no dominant ethnicity. Living and working here exposes our residents to a rich plurality of patients from different ethnic and social backgrounds, which teaches them about cultural influences on health and prepares them to work anywhere they choose.
We have implemented multiple unique initiatives that partner residents with faculty mentors and combine to assess departmental and program climate, develop, share and operationalize best practices for educating our residents through a health equity lens, create opportunities for residents to participate in social emergency medicine scholarship and engage with our community through a broad spectrum of service projects.
Our program is committed to fostering an environment in which individuals of all races, ethnicities, ages, genders, sexual orientations, religions, and nations of origin will thrive, and are valued for what makes them unique. The celebration of the differences within our resident body is critical to the realization of our promise as a program to train the most talented healers.
