Across Borders: Global Case Series in Cardiovascular Surgery

Content

The Center for Global Surgery collaborates with the University Mohammed Vi des Sciences de la Sante in Casablanca, Morocco; the Ibn Al-Bitar Center for Cardiac Surgery in Baghdad, Iraq; and the University of Benin Teaching Hospital in Benin City, Nigeria to hold a case series session every two months. Across Borders: Global Case Series in Cardiovascular Surgery is organized into a five-part curriculum where topics are thoughtfully chosen, including infectious pathology, rheumatic heart disease, cardiac tumors, etc. From these themes, faculty, fellows, and residents from the four  institutions choose a recent case that they dive further into. Each session includes case scenarios; most recent cases have covered heart valve disease, heart transplantation, congenital or adult congenital cases, and more. These case studies offer a unique educational opportunity for both sides to engage in a bilateral conversation that previously had not been available. Faculty and learners get the opportunity to see different cases that are not common in their region and how they manage in the operating room. We are very proud of this successful partnership and conference led by Drs. Hicham Benyoussef, Todd K. Rosengart and Lauren Barron.
