What We Do
TRISH relentlessly pursues and funds novel research to deliver high-impact scientific and technological solutions that advance space health and help humans thrive wherever they explore, in space or on Earth. TRISH was established to find and fund high-risk, high-reward research projects to help keep humans healthy during deep space exploration. This includes providing solutions for health risks late Artemis astronauts may face.
TRISH’s strength lies in our world-class faculty and staff, whose deep knowledge in science, health, and space operations drives the innovative, practical solutions we deliver. TRISH is not merely reacting to the needs of space health; we are actively creating the future of the field. With a long-term, holistic perspective, TRISH has tackled structural and organizational challenges to create systems that endure.
On behalf of the space program, TRISH has supported novel research that may provide solutions to health risks involving radiation exposure, behavioral health, medicine, food, environment, cellular and molecular, and medical technology research.
Through initiatives like EXPAND, HERMES, and SENTINEL, TRISH is building a model of self-sufficiency. We don’t just conduct research–we translate it into deployable mission-critical tools and operational infrastructures. We strengthen human performance wherever adaptability and resilience are vital.

Who We Are
The Translational Research Institute for Space Health (TRISH) is a lean, virtual institute empowered by the NASA Human Research Program to solve the challenges of human deep space exploration. Led by Baylor College of Medicine's Center for Space Medicine, our consortium leverages partnerships with Caltech and MIT.
TRISH Strategic Plan
TRISH’s programs all focus on providing exceptional research deliverables and human capital to NASA that will impact spaceflight for generations into the future. This work supports humanity's return to the Moon, through the Artemis missions, and future lunar operations. We also recognize that the next leap of space flight involves bringing people across the spectrum of health, backgrounds, sex/gender, etc. to venture into the unknown through both NASA and commercial spaceflight companies. The Institute advocates for and advances space health for the benefit of all future space travelers.
To develop the research and technologies that will help all of humanity, we must recruit new, diverse researchers and thinkers into our mission now. All people have a future in space if we make room for them today.

The Larger Impact
As a laboratory like no other, space allows us to study the body's response to extreme challenges and learn how we can stay healthy in even the harshest of environments. By studying how the body adapts and responds, we can work to solve fundamental questions about human health and well-being and uncover advances for health and healthcare delivery for all.
