Colton Applegarth, M.D.

Item Definition

University of California San Diego

Dr. Applegarth was born and raised on a ranch just north of Sacramento, California. He attended the University of Hawai’i at Manoa and received a degree in Molecular and Cell Biology. From there he went on to receive his medical degree from the University of California San Diego, where he was involved in the Association of Native American Medical Students and completed research focusing on racial outcomes in post-partum hemorrhage. His career interests include Maternal-Fetal Medicine and high-risk obstetrics, health care disparities, and obstetric outcomes in underserved and marginalized communities. In his spare time, he enjoys yoga, attempting to eat his way through Houston’s food scene, traveling as much as possible and spending time with friends and family. Dr. Applegarth is looking forward to serving the diverse community of Houston!

Sarah Bohac, M.D.

Baylor College of Medicine

Dr. Bohac was born and raised in a small central Texas town called Taylor. She attended Texas A&M University for her undergraduate degree, where she majored in Biomedical Science and minored in Psychology. She completed her medical degree at Baylor College of Medicine and is thrilled to remain at Baylor for residency. Her interests include reproductive health access and education, medical education, and minimally invasive gynecologic surgery. Dr. Bohac enjoys taking long walks with her golden retriever, reading, taking Pilates classes, and quality time with family and friends!

University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine

Dr. Chapman was born and raised in Corpus Christi, Texas. She attended the University of Texas at Austin (hook ‘em), where she majored in Biology with a minor in Biological Anthropology. She returned to South Texas for medical school at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine. She is thrilled to be joining the Baylor College of Medicine OBGYN family. Her clinical interests include contraception, reproductive health access, and patient advocacy. Outside the hospital, she loves to walk her dog, Alfie, read novels (preferably with a romantic subplot), and try new restaurants around Houston!

Janelle Chavez, M.D.

Stanford University School of Medicine

Dr. Janelle Chavez was raised in Port Isabel, Texas. She is a Dean’s Honored Graduate of the University of Texas at Austin where she earned a full-ride scholarship as a Forty Acres Scholar. She completed her medical degree at Stanford University School of Medicine where she earned a full-ride scholarship as a Knight-Hennessy Scholar. During her studies, Dr. Chavez assisted with MD Anderson Cancer Center telementoring efforts in her home of the Rio Grande Valley, volunteered at women’s health clinics providing care for migrants and refugees in Tijuana, Mexico, and published research in the Journal of the American Medical Association on disparities in access to trauma centers in the US. She also worked as a health reporter for CNN, writing daily articles and assisting with television segments. Dr. Chavez is passionate about increasing health literacy and access to quality medical care, especially among underserved populations. Outside of medicine, she enjoys reality television, music, and spending time with loved ones.

Dr. Cook was born and raised in Houston, Texas. She received her undergraduate degree in biology from Trinity University. She completed her M.D. with honors at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. Her clinical interests include patient and medical education, high-risk obstetrics, infertility, gynecologic oncology, and identifying and addressing social determinants of health. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, playing with her dog Luna, tennis, country dancing, going to the beach, and gardening with her fiancé.

University of Texas- Austin Dell Medical School

Dr. Isa was born in Chicago and raised in Southern Illinois before moving to Texas. She received her B.S. in Neuroscience with a minor in Creative Writing from UT Dallas. She completed her M.D. at UT Austin’s Dell Medical School and her M.B.A from UT Austin’s McCombs School of Business. Her interests include narrative medicine, health technology, medical education, and surgical innovation. She is excited to serve the Houston community and share her passion for improving health disparities and making quality care more accessible for underserved populations. In her free time, Rabab enjoys spending time with her family, painting, hosting game nights, photography, and exploring new cities through the art, coffee, & food scenes.

Kyla Maupin, M.D.

Louisiana State University School of Medicine

Dr. Maupin was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. She attended Howard University for her undergraduate degree where she majored in French and minored in biology. She completed her medical degree at Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans. Her clinical interests include high-risk obstetrics as well as general obstetrics and gynecology. Outside of the hospital, she loves to travel, listen to audiobooks, spend time with loved ones, and of course cuddle with her little dog Prince.

Natalia Miroballi, M.D., M.Eng

Texas A&M School of Engineering Medicine

Dr. Miroballi is a proud native Houstonian who received her undergraduate degree from The University of Texas in Austin, where she studied Biomedical Engineering. She returned to Houston to complete her medical education at Texas A&Ms School of Engineering Medicine, during which she earned her Master's of Engineering in additional to her Doctor of Medicine. At the moment, her clinical interests include healthcare innovation, gynecologic surgery, and patient advocacy and medical education. When not at the hospital, you can find Dr. Miroballi at a workout class, exploring Houston's extensive food scene, or watching one of Houston many sports teams.

Dr. Momin was born and raised in Orlando, Florida. She attended Emory University for her undergraduate degree, where she majored in neuroscience and behavioral biology and minored in religious studies. She completed her medical degree at the University of Texas Medical Branch John Sealy School of Medicine where she was inducted to Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and the Gold Humanism Honor Society. Her clinical interests include high-risk obstetrics, general Ob/Gyn, and global health. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, reading, finding cute coffee shops and spending time with loved ones!

Dr. Poling is from a little bit of everywhere but considers Arizona her home. She went to The University of Arizona and double majored in Nutritional Sciences and Spanish Literature. After graduation, she spent one year living in Spain teaching English (and traveling all over Europe!) and an additional year teaching Special Education back in Tucson. As a medical student at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson, she realized her passion for working in women's health with the underserved and border health populations. Her clinical interests include global health, preventative medicine, high-risk obstetrics, and REI. Outside of the hospital, you can find her in a hot yoga class, having a beach or lake day, or planning her next travel adventure.

Dr. Valery was raised in Orlando, Florida, and pursued her undergraduate education at Rutgers University-New Brunswick, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Biological Sciences with a minor in Psychology. She continued her education in the Northeast, attending Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University, where she discovered her passion for women’s health and advocacy. Her clinical interests include high-risk obstetrics, racial disparities in women’s health, and vulvovaginal health. Outside of the hospital, Dr. Valery enjoys reading romance and non-fiction novels, traveling to new destinations, and exploring the vibrant restaurant scene in Houston.

Item Definition

Dr. Villarreal was born in Mexico and grew up in Laredo, Texas. She graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Texas A&M International University. She earned her medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, where she was a member of the Phi Chi Zeta Medical Fraternity. Throughout her time in medical school, Dr. Villarreal focused on mentoring, research, and serving marginalized communities. She has continued to mentor women through different organizations, such in as the Latino Medical Student Association. She was awarded the Top Student Researcher Award for her research contributions at UTMB and completed the Bilingual Health Scholarly Concentration, a testament to her commitment to serving the Hispanic community. She is passionate about academic medicine and improving obstetric outcomes in minorities. In her free time, she enjoys working out, dancing, and trying new restaurants. She is excited to be part of the Baylor family and continue to educate, empower, and serve the women in Houston!
