Stories from the Heart of Medicine
Theme: Images and Icons
Has an image illuminated elements of your health, education, or practice? Was it a sound, smell, flavor, sight, or something you felt? Where did that image take you? Did it spark curiosity and lead to discovery–or to disappointment? And what could that image mean to others?
In your submission, tell a story about those images and where they led you. Your tale can be true, fictional, or a mix of both. Pack your story with engaging characters, realistic dialogue, and vivid scenes. Give us tension and dramatic action! The setting could be a clinic, hospital, or somewhere far from health care. Please submit your story (600 – 900 words) by Oct. 6.
If selected, we’ll invite you to read your story during a free one-hour storytelling event at McGovern Medical School on Nov. 14 at 5:30 p.m. Anyone can attend, and anyone can submit a story. If yours is accepted, you will join fellow storytellers on Oct. 28 or 29 for a workshop led by an experienced writer.
Off Script is a community-oriented event. No healthcare affiliation is required.
