Black History Month, or African-American History Month, celebrated each February in the United States, provides an opportunity to recognize and honor the achievements African Americans have made to the nation and the world.
Baylor College of Medicine will mark Black History Month with a number of activities and highlight African-American trailblazers in medicine and science on our social media.

The following events take place in celebration of Black History Month in 2023:
- Feb. 7, 5-6:30 p.m., Compassionate Conversations: In observance of Black History Month the Office of Community Engagement & Health Equity is hosting a Compassionate Conversation on environmental justice. Elena Craft, Ph.D., Associate Vice President of Climate and Health at Environmental Defense Fund will present, "The Climate Vulnerability Index: A New Tool to Identify Climate Vulnerable Communities across the U.S." on Tuesday, Feb. 7 from 5-6:30 p.m. Register Here
- Feb. 22, 12-1 p.m., Poetry Reading: In celebration of Black History Month, the Office of Community Engagement & Health Equity is hosting a live virtual poetry reading on Feb. 22 from 12-1 p.m. If you are interested in reading a poem, prose or other piece, please email Dr. Kimberly Kay Lopez, KL2@bcm.edu. - Feb. 25, 10:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m., Mental Health Awareness and Mental health Career Path Discussion: Sponsored by the Menninger Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Baylor College of Medicine is hosting a community discussion at Smith Neighborhood Library on Feb. 25 from 10:30 a.m. -1:30 p.m. If you are interested in attending, please RSVP and email John Saunders at John.Saunders@bcm.edu by Feb. 21, 2023. - Feb. 28, 12-1 p.m., Health Equity Grand Rounds: In honor of Black History Month the Office of Community Engagement & Health Equity present a Decolonizing Methodologies in Health talk on Tuesday, Feb. 28, 12-1 p.m., by Dr. Jameta Barlow, Assistant Professor of Writing, Health Policy & Management and Women's, Gender & Sexuality Studies, The George Washington University Public Voices Fellowship at AcademyHealth, in partnership with The OpEd Project.
