GWIMS Chapter at Baylor

The Office of Community Engagement & Health Equity launch the formation of Group on Women in Medicine and Science Chapter at Baylor College of Medicine. Modeled on the Association of American Medical Colleges Group on Women in Medicine and Science, the GWIMS Chapter at Baylor is designed to represent students, trainees, staff, and faculty with the goal of advancing the full and successful participation and inclusion of women in science and medicine by addressing gender equity, recruitment, retention, awards and recognition and career advancement.

Thursday, March 21, 2024 from Noon - 1 p.m.: The Group on Women in Medicine and Science Chapter at Baylor GWIMS will host Dr. Lisa Doggett, a BCM alum, for a lecture and book reading from her memoir. Lisa Doggett, MD, MPH, is a family physician and author of an award-winning new memoir, "Up the Down Escalator: Medicine, Motherhood and Multiple Sclerosis." This a virtual TEAMS event. Monday, Apr. 17, 2023: The Group on Women in Medicine and Science (GWIMS) Chapter at Baylor GWIMS is presenting "Bench to Biotech: Translation Research to Industry presented by Sarah Hein, PhD, Founding CEO, March Biosciences and Devin Dunn, MPH, Head of the Accelerator for Health Tech for TMC Innovations". 

Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2021: The Group on Women in Medicine and Science (GWIMS) Chapter at Baylor GWIMS will host Dr. Linda Chaudron, past chair of the AAMC GWIMS. Linda Chaudron, M.D., MS, professor of psychiatry, pediatrics and obstetrics and gynecology, and director of the Paul M. Shcyve, M.D. Center for Bioethics, University of Rochester Medical Center, will speak on work/life integration

March 26, 2021: Baylor College of Medicine's Group on Women in Medicine and Science (GWIMS) Chapter hosted a virtual Book Club discussion of Dr. Brené Brown's nationally recognized book, "Dare to Lead: Brave Work. Tough Conversations. Whole Hearts."

March 3, 2020: Baylor also launched the inaugural event for the new AAMC Group on Women in Science and Medicine (GWIMS) Chapter. This kick-off event titled "Strategies to Advance your Career" included a panel Baylor women offering advice on career development and what toolkits and resources are available to students, trainees, staff, faculty and departments. The Office of Community Engagement & Health Equity also hosted a Twitterstorm to mark the inaugural event with all Baylor community members encouraged to tweet in support of women in science and medicine.
