Treatment Options

A focused team of specialists at the Esophageal Cancer Center works in concert to create an individualized treatment plan upfront, so that the right combination and sequence of therapies can be recommended to ensure the best possible outcome.

Treatment options depend on the following:

• The stage of the cancer (whether it affects part of the esophagus, involves the whole esophagus, or has spread to other places in the body)
• Whether the tumor can be completely removed by surgery
• The patient’s general health

Procedures can include:

• Endoscopic management of Barrett’s esophagus and early stage esophageal cancer
• Esophagectomy
• Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD)
• Jejunostomy feeding tube
• Long-term access port placement
• Minimally invasive esophagectomy
• Palliation of malignant strictures
• Staging laparoscopy

Treatments can include, surgery, chemotherapy, targeted therapy and endoscopic submucosal dissection of the tumor.
