Content

The Core Medicine clerkship (MCMED-MAIN, 12 credits) is a clinical rotation designed to develop students' skills in diagnosis and management of illness in adults. Students have access to a large number of patients in a variety of settings through our affiliation with eight leading healthcare institutions – all located close together in the world's largest medical center.

Department of Medicine undergraduate medical students experience required core clerkships at Ben Taub Hospital, Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center, and in an ambulatory setting. Learning is self-directed and based on the patients seen. Students will learn about physical diagnosis, laboratory evaluation and differential diagnosis of important disorders. Students will also be expected to learn fundamental aspects of therapy that can be used on other rotations.

The clerkship director is Dr. Andrew Caruso.
