National Postdoctoral Appreciation Week occurs annually on the third week of September. This year NPAW is Sept. 19 – 23, 2022.

Thank a Postdoc

We are celebrating more than 500 research postdoctoral associates and fellows at Baylor College of Medicine. Take a moment to acknowledge their contributions and accomplishments. Here are a few ways to thank a postdoc!

  1. Post an appreciation message on the Kudoboard. More details are below.
  2. Send a personal note of thanks and give a small token of appreciation.
  3. Nominate them for awards.
  4. Create opportunities to introduce them to colleagues in the field.
  5. Highlight their contributions on Twitter (use #NPAW2022) and elsewhere.
  6. Leave a recommendation or kudos on their LinkedIn page.

Kudoboard for Postdocs

The Office of Postdoctoral Affairs is hosting a Kudoboard for faculty, staff, students, and postdocs to post messages and images of appreciation for research postdoctoral associates and fellows at Baylor College of Medicine. The Kudoboard is open for contributions and will close on Sept. 20, 2022. The final Kudoboard will be shared during NPAW.

Coffee & Bagels from the BCM Postdoctoral Association  2nd Floor Alkek Lobby at 10 a.m.| Meet representatives from the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs, Career Development Center, International Services Team, and the Academic Success Center and chat with your postdoctoral colleagues.

National Postdoctoral Appreciation Week Keynote Panel: Finding Your Balance at 1 p.m. | The national kickoff event will highlight postdoc mental health and wellness. Speakers will discuss the challenges early career researchers face, share tips they have learned from their struggles, and provide a framework for postdocs to build better balance in their professional lives especially as they navigate their next career step. Register here.

Finding Your Balance: Self-Advocacy for Scientists in Alkek N311 at 2 p.m. | The BCM Academic Success Center presents guidance on how to be your own advocate and the benefits self-advocacy skills can bring to your work/life balance. The content of this talk is guided by the NIH’s Resiliency Training Program. Speaker: Brianna Etoria, M.B.A., M.A., Academic Success Center.

Finding Your Balance with the “Five Branches of Well-being” in Alkek N311 at 11 a.m. | Raeah Braunschweiger from BCM BeWell will guide participants on ways to optimize their use of the BeWell initiative, part of BCM Well-Being. Resources within the Five Branches of Well-being: Healthy Body, Healthy Mind, Healthy Environment, Healthy Finances and Healthy Community can help our community grow and thrive.
