International Rotation Process for Graduate Medical Education

Master
Content

For Baylor College of Medicine Graduate Medical Education trainees only.

If a trainee is scheduled for an international rotation (including official global tracks, BIPAI sites, or research/non-clinical electives), complete the following steps:

1. Form Submission

  • The International Rotation request form should be completed by the program director or coordinator for each trainee before the start of the academic year for all planned international rotations.
  • If additional rotations are needed after the academic year has started, the program director or program coordinator must complete this form at least six weeks before the anticipated start date of the rotation. Failure to do so may result in the request not being processed in time.
  • Some international institutions will provide liability coverage for your trainees. If so, this should be uploaded to the International Rotations form.

2. Review and Approval

  • After submission, the GME team will review the form with Risk Management to confirm coverage availability. Once approval is granted, the program will be notified within six weeks of submission.

3. PLA Requirement

  • If there is no active PLA for the rotation, a new PLA must be initiated in MedHub.
  • A trainee may not travel unless there is a fully executed PLA, which often takes many weeks to execute. The primary contact for these PLAs is Keyasha Mills Keyasha.Mills@bcm.edu, her backup point of contact is Reagan Sadler Reagan.Sadler@bcm.edu

Please ensure compliance with this process to protect all residents and fellows participating in rotations outside the United States.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact your GME team. A copy of this process will be available in the “Documents and Forms” folder in the “Resources/Documents” section in MedHub.
