The American Medical Women's Association is an organization which functions at the local, national and international level to advance women in medicine and improve women's health. The AMWA achieves this by providing and developing leadership, advocacy, education, expertise, mentoring and strategic alliances. As part of our local Baylor chapter, we mentor undergraduate female students who are interested in pursuing careers in medicine, and we organize lectures and panels for our peers that focus on unique issues that female physicians face as they pursue various careers within medicine. We also champion health issues that disproportionately affect women, such as breast and cervical cancer, intimate partner violence, human trafficking, osteoporosis, autoimmune diseases such as Lupus, prenatal care and sexual assault. We seek to create a vibrant community of female doctors-in-training who will become leaders in their respective specialties.

Finally, APAMSA provides an important venue for medical students to meet, exchange experiences, and develop personally and professionally through leadership and service.
