The Division of Medical Education Research and Scholarship (MERS), in the Office of the Senior Dean at Baylor College of Medicine, aims to support, collaborate on and promote educational research and scholarship.

What do we do?

  • Provide consultations on research designs, survey development, building educational research into existing efforts statistical approaches, dissemination strategies, etc. 
  • Develop and provide educational and training experiences.
  • Create a community for medical education researchers at BCM.

Funded by the Baylor College of Medicine Huffington Department of Education, Innovation & Technology (EIT) Faculty Pilot Grants, the Educational Research Mini-Series website aims to:

  • Develop a video mini-series on educational research with BCM faculty experts
  • Curate existing educational research resources, curriculum, and materials
  • Promote opportunities to engage in educational research

This website serves as a valuable hub for educational researchers, trainees and educators, offering a curated collection of resources and materials designed to enhance your education research endeavors.

Description: The Texas Educator’s Academies Collaborative for Health Professions - Southeast (TEACH-S) Educational Symposium is an in-person event to provide a forum for showcasing scholarly innovations of the regional community of educators. Topic: Call for Proposals--The Generalists in Medical Education Annual Conference, 2024
Deadline: Monday, May 13, 2024, 11:59 p.m. EST
Description: The Generalists in Medical Education conference is where health professions educators and students from across the United States gather to make connections, share ideas, grow professionally, and discover solutions to challenges in teaching and learning. You are invited to submit a proposal for this year’s conference. The conference will provide a forum to share your educational research and innovations.

The Generalists in Medical Education offer a variety of proposal and presentation formats:

  • Round Table Discussions
  • Descriptive Sessions
  • Ignite Presentations
  • Panel Discussions
  • Problem-Solving Sessions
  • Skill Acquisition Sessions

To ensure a diverse program and participation, an individual can only be lead author/presenter on one accepted proposal. However, individuals can be supporting authors on up to three accepted proposals.

Topic: Call for Proposals-- 2024 Academy of Distinguished Educators Educational grants
Deadline: Monday, May 13, 2024, 11:59 p.m. EST
Description: The Office of Faculty Development is pleased to announce that applications are now being accepted for the 2024 Academy of Distinguished Educators Educational grants.  

Academy educational grants are open to educators at all levels of development with the condition that applicants must have received a Norton Rose Fulbright award. Applications will be accepted through May 17, 2024, and recipients will be notified on or about July 5, 2024. Learn more. Topic: The 2nd Wicked Problems in Medical Education Conference 
Date: May 29-31, 2024, Phuket, Thailand
Description: This international conference is a forum for educators, researchers, and program leaders who are keen to expand their repertoire of systematic inquiries (also referred to research approaches). While these methodologies can be applied to all types of problem, we will focus on one particular complex problem in medical education that is challenging or impossible to solve: the wicked problem of teaching and assessing professionalism. Topic: IAMSE 2024 Annual Conference
Date: June 15-18, 2024, Minneapolis, Minnesota
Description: The Annual Conference of the International Association of Medical Science Educators (IAMSE) offers many opportunities for faculty development and networking and brings medical sciences and medical education across the continuum together. Featured plenary speakers include Dan Cannity (University of Massachusetts Amherst, USA), Kim Lomis (American Medical Association, USA), Dujeepa Samarasekera (National University of Singapore, Signapore), and Alison Whelan (Association of American Medical Colleges, USA). Pre-conference faculty development workshops will begin as usual on Saturday, June 15, and conference activities are set to begin on June 16! The Annual IAMSE Conference will provide you with new teaching techniques, ideas, and resources whether it's through our plenary sessions, pre-conference workshops, focus sessions, or poster and oral presentations.
