Adaptation and Evaluation of SHARE: A Self-Management Intervention for Head and Neck Cancer Patients and their Caregivers (H-38984)

Description

Content

Introduction: Thanks to advances in early detection and treatment, people are living longer and fuller lives after being diagnosed with head and neck cancer. However, even with medical advances, dealing with the side effects of radiation treatment can be challenging. SHARE is a web-based intervention that provides resources for head and neck cancer patients and caregivers to improve their overall quality of life during the process of receiving cancer treatment.

Purpose: To provide patients and caregivers with an online resource to improve quality of care throughout their cancer treatment, as well as quality of the relationship between patient and caregiver when applicable.

Design: Patients and caregivers who agree to participate will be asked to complete a baseline survey, and will then be given access to the SHARE website throughout the duration of their radiation therapy (6-8 sessions). One month post-treatment, patients and caregivers will each complete a follow-up survey to examine intervention effects.

Patients and caregivers will each receive a $10 Clincard for the baseline survey and a $20 Clincard for the follow-up survey for a total of up to $60 per couple/family.

Eligibility
