The goal of this study is to establish a database of pediatric patients with early-onset obesity who have been phenotypically well-characterized through a variety of standardized assessments.

The goal stated above is undertaken within the context of the Texas Children's Hospital Genetic Disorders of Obesity Program goals of which are as follows:

  • Identify genetic causes of obesity within patients who develop early-onset (<5yo) obesity
  • Evaluate the response of genetic forms of obesity to behavioral and medical treatments
  • Optimize identification of genetic forms of obesity
  • Identify other factors leading to early-onset childhood obesity
  • Advocate for policies that support diagnosis and treatment of genetic forms of childhood obesity
  • Educate and collaborate within the medical community in efforts to identify and treat genetic forms of childhood obesity
